19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A resurgent the Russian player claimed his initial title for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging year, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally splitting with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.

It is his initial title after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt after spring of the previous year.

Success also signifies he has secured 21 titles at 21 various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my children simultaneously, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my child her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

The player's counter-punching play style and frequent outbursts on court had caused observers to wonder if his capacity to compete at the top level was finished.

Yet the player has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete aggressively, reinforced by an improved service.

The champion came back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, securing four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

Both players traded breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his initial ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a decider.

Moutet defended four early-game chances in a close third set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner secured the title with a shot at the net area, with his opponent unable to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
