Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, demons, and sinister influences expanding in power within the city.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of adventurers who will separate from the main group to begin their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might seem out of place, but the actions of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose death started the campaign’s events—used the foes for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.

Casimir then cleared his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks retribution.
  • Kattigan knows the region and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as important members in the influential clan could assist the team enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the family.

This results in them few options but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

According to episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Seekers and Schemers tables.

Viewers can look forward to finding out which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
